Creator of Platforms for Breakfast, Esmirna Tapia, has amassed a following over 140k on Instagram & we wanted to get the inside scoop. How does this #girlboss do it? We discovered her amazing content here on BFrow (check it out HERE) and we were hoping to get some insight on her success with a short interview.
Let’s get to it!
Q1. Your photos are beautiful! As a blogger / business woman, would you attribute your success to quality photos? Many influencers don’t use a photographer / high res photos, do you think that’s a mistake?
A: Thank you! YES! I myself am a very visual person, so I have always been “attracted” to blogs or websites with overpowering photography, huge photos/visuals, and over time I started to realize that those sites were the more “successful” ones- I just think you can play around and be more creative that way. As far as influencers not using high res photos, I do sincerely believe that they may be at a less of an advantage because brands/designers are always looking to partner with people who have great quality content and are consistent with their photography in order to promote their merchandise/products. One thing that I have learned and has stuck is: quality over quantity- always the winning option.
Q2. You have a very successful following, did you see a spike in followers after a specific post / event / collaboration? Or, did you following grow steadily over time?
A: I have yet to blog full-time, and I have been doing this for years, so it was not a specific post that made my following grow- it has been more of a steady pace. Of course, with every collaboration I’ve done I do get a bit of exposure, so that has also been a great help.
Q3. Speaking of time, when did you start blogging and why?
A: I was still in college in Arizona, and since I was only there with my then-boyfriend (now husband) with no family, I decided to start a random blog to solely document my daily outfits and have that as a sort of online scrapbook so I could always go back and see how my style evolved. I was never really consistent since I was a full-time student, but it’s been about 5 years since my first post! Whoa!
Q4. Do you use affiliate links to generate income? If so, how do you use them and what are your tricks for success? If not, why don’t you?
A: The only links I have ever used until now has been RewardStyle, but even then with that I have not been consistent only because personally, it honestly didn’t matter if I made money off my blog or not- that was never the purpose of it. Now I recently got back to using that and Shopstyle!
Q5. What has been the most notable collaboration for you and how did it come about?
A: There have actually been quite a few, starting with a more recent one with Palacio de Hierro (like the Bergdorf’s of Latin America!) in Mexico City! I was contacted and asked if I would like to participate in an influencer trip, all-expenses paid trip to Mexico City with Palacio de Hierro and the Mexican Tourism Board in order to partner with them and promote the country and bring awareness to the store itself. I was 1 of 3 influncers invited and it was unbelievable! Aside from that, I have worked with DSW, Asos, Missguided, Forever 21, Storets, Skechers, Abercrombie & Fitch, among others. I usually get contacted by the brands directly or through PR’s because of my Instagram account more than my actual blog, so that is pretty cool!
